Club Night News: 22nd January

Dr Param Sandhu, Vanishing Stripes

Yet another great night at Durham PS thanks to Dr Sandhu. It was a love story devoted to the “Immense beauty, handsomeness and grace” of the endangered tigers of India. It was a captivating presentation, with wonderful photography, delivered with laconic good humour (and little, if any, false modesty!). Your blogger whose ancestors are from Wales enjoyed the Welsh/Punjabi references!

Awards Presentation Dinner

It will be at the Bowburn Hall Hotel, tonight, Friday 23rd January. As well as a hugely enjoyable dinner together, there will be the presentation of trophies by a mystery guest (he or she being a much loved, popular figure). Please bring along raffle prize(s) in time-honoured fashion for the giant “Free”raffle (an opportunity to unload unwanted Christmas gifts and make generous donations!) which will be MC’d by the inimitable, irrepressible, indomitable Miss Angy Ellis.

1st Progress Print competition

Closing date is next Thursday 29th January, two entries per member. Please check the rules in your programme or on the Competitions page of this website carefully. Also supply Competition Secretary Brian Blake with correctly sized and titled digital versions by email or to the club. These will be for projection on results night for the added enjoyment of the packed audience! Note, we are having a big push to get the sizing, colour space and captioning right.

Member’s Night 12th March

Programme Secretary Paul Ritchie has invited members to take part by giving a 10 or 15 minute presentation of their work. Talk to Paul to find out more and register an interest. No pressure, but usually this is one of the best nights of the year!

Club Night News: 15th January

The London Salon

We had some technical difficulties with projection (for which, apologies, we’ll have it fixed for next time) but, still, it was a hugely enjoyable and stimulating evening. It was remarkable just how many stellar London Salon members, and other outstanding photographers with acceptances into the exhibition, have lectured at Durham PS or will in the near future.

These included Anne Greiner, Neil Scott, Des Clinton, Hugh Milsom, Rikki O’Neil, Rod Whelans, Sandy Cleland, Tom Dodd … not forgetting Our Joe, President Joe Grabham (‘Oh Lord, it’s hard to be Humble’), whose two accepted prints fitted so well into this truly exceptional exhibition. And as a bonus, the insightful commentary was by Leigh Preston!

It will be at the Bowburn Hall Hotel, Friday 23rd January and a mere £18.50 per head for members and guests. Last chance to book (and pay!) will be club night next week 22nd January
