Edward Forster ARPS & Mick Howe: As long as it’s Black and White

Ed and Mick from Whickham have been touring with this show to wide acclaim from fellow enthusiasts in clubs all over the region and thankfully finally made it to Durham PS. Ed showed prints and Mick PDI, almost all black and white and a huge range of subjects from documentary to travel to landscapes and more. They were passionate about their subjects and compelling advocates for the considerable virtues of black and white and having long term projects and themes

The SummerTyne Americana Festival at Sage Gateshead is usually in July. The 2018 dates will be on the Hot Dates page as soon as announced

Annual General Meeting 23rd November

General Secretary Mike Boult has posted the election of officers listing on the notice board. To stand for election/re-election you need a proposer and a seconder

Also, any paid up member can raise issues they would like the committee to look into. There needs to be proposer and a seconder and there is a notice on the board advising members how to make the requests which should be by 6th November latest

DPS Exhibitions: Durham Town Hall

Organised by Mike Boult, an open exhibition of member’s prints is now showing in the Town Hall entrance gallery and will be on for the rest of the month. To follow will be Into the Light during November to tie in with Lumiere Durham. A print box is out for entries which must be in by Thursday 26th October. See earlier NewsBlog here

PftNE Craftspeople exhibition

The latest Portraits from the North East touring exhibition is now showing in a superb setting at Ushaw College (which, by the way, has an excellent cafe and many other attractions).

Next Assignment is to Thorp Perrow Arboretum, Saturday 21st October meeting at 10.00 a.m. Sadly, this will be the last Assignment organised by David Forster and John Carter who are retiring after doing the job so well for many years

Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk

The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk took place on Saturday 7th October. Open to all, not just DPS members, the Durham walk was led by our own Tony Mearman with 36 walkers taking part. Internationally there were 1000 walks with 30,000 people taking part, all in aid of Springs of Hope Kenya Orphanage

NCPF Lecturers List – show your work to a wider audience!

This is one of the main ways that club programme secretaries can contact potential visiting lecturers from the NCPF circuit. The list is currently being updated. Any DPS member that would like to be on the list can contact Mike Boult in the first instance. Two DPS members have volunteered so far

NCPF Judge Recruitment Seminar

Sunday the 25th February 2018 between 10am and 4pm, closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 31st January 2018.

Next closing date is for Digital and George Samuel Trophies 26th October and, finally in the 2017 season, Valente Cup 2nd November

Wear Area Battle

Hosted by Washington CC, the 2017 “Battle”, a competition between clubs in the NCPF Wear area, takes place this year 24th November. Judge will be Alan Porrett ARPS DPAGB APAGB EFIAP. External Competition Secretary Tony Mearman will be leading our challenge
