Andy Martin: After Dark – Night Photography on Film
Andy Martin’s first lecture at Durham PS, thanks to Julian Harrop, was in 2012 when he was still working at Beamish Living Museum of the North. Then followed his ground breaking talk last year. This time, the work he showed was from his Sunderland and night photography projects, mostly Velvia and black and white film in cameras ranging from Agfa Isolette, to Hasselblad, to 5×4, to plate cameras and included a stunning digital time lapse sequence from “This is Sunderland”. Quite simply, it was one of the best nights we’ve had! Paul Ritchie described his night photography, of industrial grime and dereliction, as having elegance and beauty with an edgy quality … and the time lapse films having a mesmerising, disturbing quality that was magical, inspired and so, so different
Martin, who by day works in I.T., has several excellent websites including:
An online portfolio site, MARTINTYPE here
