Club Night News: 7th January

President’s Night: Angy Ellis

It was a tour de force from Angy – hugely entertaining and giving fascinating insight into her world in which she knows no fear. Generously giving appreciation to fellow members such as Mavis Ord, Ivor Miller, John Cogan and the late Robin Wallace (to name but four) for their support and advice, she took us on a journey that ranged far and wide. She has become a truly accomplished and creative photographer with exceptional ability to connect with and portray people from so many walks of life from her Aunties, to children to alternative models to cage fighters. And there was Jetski, Tough Mudder (take a bow Martin), excellent street photography, compelling social commentary and more.

Altogether, it was an impressive debut as President – fun too, and at times deeply moving

Club Night News 30th October:

Tom Dodd

It was yet another night of fabulous photography wonderfully well presented. Tom showed a great range of superb prints in a way not seen before at the club. It was that, combined with his Welsh charm and good humour that made for a very popular night.

Members will be booking flights to Ffestiniog slate mines, scouring ebay for Nikon slide/negative scanners and practising the new buzz phrase, “Pleasing Lack of Definition” (as in, “It’s not un sharp, it just has a pleasing lack of definition”)

Tom’s love of digital printing and good natured attitude to fellow photographers’ digital art was infectious. And his final advice… “Just enjoy taking pictures, don’t think about the judges”

Altogether a hugely enjoyable evening

Paula and Guy Davies

It was an exceptional evening of breathtaking photography superbly well printed. As one member suggested, there were shades of Heaton Cooper in the beautiful landscapes and Guy admitted to have been a bit of an artist but found that looking at a lot of pictures, in exhibitions and so on, enhanced his ability to see pictures in real life

In an unexpected turn of events, the title of Leigh’s show on the night became “A momentary Lapse of Reason”. On this performance, Leigh could easily do a sell out tour and three weeks at the Fringe. And he holds two Fellowships of the RPS! Inspired members will be rushing to visit Paris, Glen Etive and Grimsby in search of metaphorical skips.

It was, let’s be honest, an unexpected delight with nine talented members showing outstanding AVs with spellbinding music and photography combined, generating a whole gamut of emotions.
